Tate McRae, like her boyfriend, brings to the table sounds that could be good in theory but are just poorly executed. This project is definitely a step in the right direction for her, but there’s a lot to work on.
I really dislike the idea that music is gendered, but I get a serious vibe that this album would’ve hit much better if I was a girl. I felt like a lot of the ideas and executions on this project were either uncomplete or dated. A lot the beats feel very dated, some executed in a good way and some in a bad way. The lyrics don’t really hit with me for what I would think are obvious reasons. Unfortunately, I don’t really know what else I can write for this review. Some of the songs were okay; “revolving door” and “purple lace bra” were decent. However, the album still misses a lot in terms of polish and execution, and so I’m gonna go with a moderate 2 on this one. I’m sure it’ll be better when there’s a dance to go with it.
